Embracing Change 8/10/2015

CHANGE: Just the thought of change in our lives can bring about exhilaration or primal fear.

Whatever the emotion, we are by nature hardwired to resist change.  With a few exceptions, we operate best and are more comfortable with predictable routines, sameness, consistency, and familiarity. Change brings the unknown into our lives.  While this is certainly true, change can bring  about personal and professional growth.

We grumble when policies at work change, relationships change, and life in general changes.  “This is the way we have always done it,” is often cited as the ultimate reason NOT to change things.  And when life situations force a change  we rigidly resist and often end up feeling disconnected, frightened, and depressed.

The truth is that we are always undergoing some type of change each and every day.  It is how we react to that change that determines our growth potential.

One important key to getting through change and coming out better on the other side is to understand and accept that change is by nature HARD.  Our bodies, our emotions, and our spirits resist.  We need to find the rainbows in change.

BEGIN BY LOOKING AT FOUR THINGS:

1. What is the best thing about this situation?

2. What is worst thing about this situation?

3.  What could I find positive in this situation?

4.  What could I learn from this situation?

Learn to embrace change as an opportunity to hone your skills in adaptation, patience and resilience.  Then watch your life evolve into something more magnificent.

“JUST WHEN THE CATERPILLAR THOUGHT THE WORLD WAS OVER IT BECAME A BUTTERFLY.”

So this happens to us as well.  Just when we want to give up, throw in the towel, or feel that this situation will take us down, we emerge stronger, more powerful and beautiful.

Next time change in your life evokes fear and you want to run,  take a different approach.  Stand, embrace and look with anticipation at the new YOU that will emerge.

Embracing change,

Teresa
